It's a little clunky. There's a few bugs. The UI needs some work. But I'm proud to announce Astrid Animator, a free sprite sheet animation tool that works with MonoGame.Extended.

A few months back I set out to make tools for game developers. This is my first attempt at making one of those tools. It doesn't have a whole lot of features yet, but it sets up the foundation for a series of tools.

Currently the animator only supports texture atlases created with Texture Packer. I plan to add a simple built in texture packing shortly to streamline the process.

Initially I'm focused on targeting MonoGame developers but I've taken care to make sure the data files are stored in a simple JSON format for easy porting to other game engines.

{
  "TextureAtlas": "zombie-atlas.json",
  "Animations": [
    {
      "Name": "appear",
      "FramesPerSecond": 8,
      "Frames": [ "appear_01","appear_02","appear_03","appear_04","appear_05","appear_06",
        "appear_07","appear_08","appear_09","appear_10","appear_11" ]
    },
    {
      "Name": "die",
      "FramesPerSecond": 8,
      "Frames": [ "die_01", "die_02", "die_03", "die_04", "die_05", "die_06", "die_07",
        "die_08" ]
    },
  ]
}

If you've like to give it a try please download it from itch.io.

It requires the .NET 4.5.2 framework if you don't already have it.
